Sanaz Nataj’s new collection features shimmering, fine embroidery applied to today’s fashion.
Khous-doozi is one of the most delicate and authentic handicrafts created by the women of Hormozgan province in southern Iran. In this craft, the artisan works with metallic ribbons less than two millimetres wide, weaving them by hand directly into the mesh of the fabric without using a needle. The design is tied so skillfully that both sides of the fabric appear identical, shimmering with a unique brilliance.
Traditionally, khous-doozi was used to decorate women’s headscarves known as “Jelbir.”
I have taken this ancient art beyond its traditional use, bringing it into the world of contemporary fashion. In its designs, khous-doozi has been applied not only to evening gowns, dresses, blouses, and waist sashes (belts), but also to fishnet stockings, bridal veils, and sugar-loaf wedding veils.
This innovative approach has transformed khous-doozi from a traditional ornament into a modern fashion statement, giving it a fresh, global appeal.
In some collaborations, artisans have been invited to apply khous-doozi with special needles onto velvet, creating a new and distinctive experience that elevates this traditional craft into a higher level of textile art and fashion.
