Join us for a Reinventing the Wheel talk by Christina Zetterlund about silver jewellery, Roma culture and Swedish craft.

Christina Zetterlund discusses the extraordinary life of Roma silversmith Rosa Taikon. Taikon was a staunch advocate for her people’s rights in Sweden without sacrificing the sensuous beauty of silver. Her work informs us of a dynamic practice that contributed to renew two different traditions – Modern Swedish Art Jewellery along-side a Roma jewellery practice as well as giving evidence of how this practice could, in multiple ways, be used to challenge intuitional racism.

Christina Zetterlund is a craft and design historian with an interest in history writing practices where craft and design become a perspective for analyzing social conditions. She is active as an associate professor at the Design+Change program at Linnaeus University and as a freelance curator and writer. Currently, she is co-artistic director of the 2022 Luleå Biennal and curator of the (Re-)learning the archive project.
